Hurricane Preparedness
Our plan
Island Montessori will take all steps necessary to secure the school and premises in the event of an approaching Tropical Storm or Hurricane which has the potential to physically impact our school.
We closely monitor all developing storms, and the school subscribes to several alert services which advise if there are any weather systems which have the potential to bring disruption to our island or our school operations. In such cases the Hurricane Action Plan will be invoked and communicated to all parents, guardians and staff prior to an anticipated hurricane strike within 5 days of landfall, to ensure sufficient time has be given for our families and staff to make final preparations.
Please note the school will follow all directives issued by the Cayman Islands Government with regards to school closures. Whilst some storms may appear non-threatening, experience has shown storms can develop quickly in our surrounding waters and it is far better to be fully prepared. School closures are considered to ensure the school, our staff and families have time to fully prepare.
Once a storm has passed, the school will conduct a thorough inspection of all spaces, and will re-open once the official All-Clear is provided by the C.I. Hazard Management Committee.
We advise families to follow the direction of the C.I. Government, and make a plan in advance to keep your family safe. The following website is a very useful source of information for all residents of our islands: Cayman Prepared
