Morning before or as kids arrive when there is time

· Set up daily art activity

· Set up sensory play

· Refill wipes as needed

o   Two teachers in downstairs classroom making sure children keep materials in there and are purposefully playing/working.

o   One teacher in upstairs Practical Life area presenting work to individual and/or small groups of children

o   One teacher in art area/classroom door making sure children that come in wash hands

ALL teachers and assistants: multitask! even if you are reading with a small group, pushing children on swing, etc. constant monitoring of the class around you to manage behaviours or safety issues is necessary and required at all times. Don’t assume someone else is or will do it. If you are the only teacher in a room or area and you need to leave that room for whatever reason, let the other teachers know so that someone else can take over your responsibility. Do not leave children unattended in a room at any time.

 · Just before 8:30 one teacher takes all toilet training and trained children to the toilet

8:45 Ring bell time to tidy up.

· Teachers can have a child do this. Children tidy up and teachers supervise/help.

 Morning Circle time:

·         Sing sitting down song as children enter circle time room

·         Once children are seated sing “roll your hands”

·         Good Morning Song

·         Days of the Week Song

·         At some point during circle time one teacher leaves room to put children’s hats on front tables and to get water crate ready to go outside. No shoes for morning garden time

 Outside time 9:00-10:30

· Again, multitask and keep an eye out on whole garden area!

· If you take a child inside to change nappies then check others as well and take anyone else that needs a change as well as any toilet training children or those prone to morning accidents.

· Children are not to bring toys up climbing area “you need two hands to climb.”

· Swings- encourage children to pump their legs and take turns. Those wanting a turn wait by poles of swing set.

· Water bottles are to stay in the area the crate and little table are set.

· Around 10am one teacher goes inside to do snack which consists of a fruit and dry snack. Plastic water basin put enough plates for all children, hand soap, hand towel and snack. Bring this and small bin out when children start tidying up.

· Another teacher encourages children to collect their water and find a seat.

· Another teacher passes out plates with snack

· Any additional teachers see where they are most needed ie line control or helping find seats

· As children finish they take their plate and then water and they tidy up their snack.

Inside 10:30-11:00 Small group work/one-on-one work

Once inside one teacher sends any toilet trained/training children to the toilet and changes any in nappies. This time is an opportunity for Montessori trained teachers to do presentations one-on-one or in small groups and non-Montessori trained teachers/TA’s can also work in small groups. This time is to facilitate language and confidence in our more reserved children as well as to work with any who are struggling with certain concepts or are advanced.

11-11:15ish Any remaining children and teachers come inside

· Same as morning routine in terms of responsibilities/duties

· It is the nature of the toddler classroom that all teachers will be asked to do things by other teachers. Do not take offence if a teacher asks you to do a task such as change a nappy or go supervise a room, it is not personal, it is for the smooth and safe running of our busy classroom!

· Make sure all children are changed and have used the toilet. Please use the whiteboard to check who needs changing. There are many children and many teachers so it makes it easier for all if we keep track!
